The first broadcast in the Pavement series focuses on planning and developing pavement projects. Specific discussion includes information about hot mix asphalt and Portland cement pavements.
After participating in this program you will be able to: • Conduct pavement evaluations and distress surveys. • Design non-destructive forms of testing. • Identify types of field sampling and testing. • Identify candidate treatments. • Coordinate pavement project selections.

Mr. Daring has 28 years of experience in pavement management, pavement engineering, and pavement materials design and testing. His career has included experience at the State DOT, regional, and local levels. He has been a frequent presenter at Technology Transfer Center and APWA seminars focused on pavement related subjects. Currently, he leads a specialized team of pavement management and engineering professionals for an East Coast consulting firm. He also currently serves as a member of the APWA Engineering & Technology committee.

Professor and Construction Material Industries Chair Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering Bagley College of Engineering Mississippi State University
Thomas D. White, PhD, PE, is on the faculty in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at Mississippi State University. He holds BS and MS degrees from Mississippi State University and a Ph.D. from Purdue University. Dr. White was Chief of the Pavements Division at the Corps of Engineers Engineering Research and Development Center, Vicksburg, MS and subsequently joined the faculty at Purdue University. He was a member of the faculty for fifteen years, retiring as Professor Emeritus. Dr. White joined the faculty at MSU as Head of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He has stepped down from that position and currently holds the Construction and Material Industries Chair and is Director of both the Construction Materials Research Center and the Mississippi Transportation Research Center. Dr. White has teaching, research, design, construction, maintenance, and evaluation experience with both concrete and asphalt pavements.
