||Using the Management Practices Manual for Self Assessment and Accreditation
Self assessment is a valuable exercise for comparing your agency's performance to best practices identified by national experts in the field of public works.
The real advantage of self assessment comes from the opportunity to evaluate, analyze and improve every aspect of your agency's operation, management and administration. It is also the basic step in becoming an APWA Accredited Agency.

This program has been approved for .2 CEUs or 2 PDHs. The form to request these credits is available upon completion of the class evaluation. Please note there is a $5 fee per individual requesting CEUs.
Director of Credentialing
Ann Daniels joined APWA in June of 2000. She served as a Program Manager for each of the Technical Committees until the Fall of 2003 when she was appointed as Director of the Technical Services Department.
With a twenty-five year career background in city government administration, both as an elected Mayor for ten years and as a City Manager/Administrator for fifteen years, Ann has an understanding of public works from a firsthand perspective. She has participated in project development from concept to construction to completion with projects totaling in the millions of dollars. Three times during her career she served as Interim Public Works Director for several months.
As Director of Credentialing, Ann is also the Director for the APWA Self Assessment and Accreditation program. Serving as the staff liaison to On-Site Evaluation teams, she has participated in the rapid growth of the Accreditation program from nine Accredited agencies in 2003 to seventy seven agencies in 2011. She annually conducts Self Assessment Workshops throughout the United States and Canada. She serves as staff to the APWA Accreditation Council.
Ann is a graduate of Park University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration. She is a Junior Achievement Leader, in addition to her civic and religious activities, which includes staffing a Shelter for Homeless Women and providing meals for the homeless, and her church.
She is the mother of two sons and grandmother to three grandsons and one granddaughter.
Ann is firmly convinced that Accreditation is the most valuable tool public works departments can utilize in organizing and maintaining their agencies.

Lee’s Summit MO
Dena began employment with the city in 1999. Prior to joining the city Dena spent over 20 years in consulting with experience in a variety of technical areas. Her primary areas of technical expertise are stormwater management and transportation. She is a graduate of Kansas State University with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering, and is a registered professional engineer in both Missouri and Kansas.
Dena is an executive committee member of the Kansas City Metro Chapter of the American Public Works Association, recently becoming Chapter President. Through the organization she has participated in rewriting sections of the metropolitan area standards on stormwater system design and pavement specifications. She also serves as an evaluator for the national organization’s accreditation program.
The City of Lee’s Summit Public Works Department became an accredited agency in 2004, reaccredited in 2008, and will go through reaccreditation again in June 2012.
