Description:	SIGN RETROREFLECTIVITY - BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES FOR HOW TO IMPLEMENT. (RETROREFLECTIVITY PART 2) CAN YOU SEE ME NOW? In an effort to promote safe nighttime driving, the FHWA announced in January 2008 an update to the MUTCD that establishes minimum levels of retroreflectivity for traffic signs. Agencies that are responsible for maintaining street signs have until January 2012 to implement a sign assessment or management system to maintain levels of retroreflectivity. Non-compliance could jeopardize federal funding for transportation projects. After viewing this program the participants will be better able to: * Describe the new MUTCD sign retroreflectivity requirements * Begin the process of selecting the most appropriate sign maintenance method for their agency * Facilitate planning processes that will result in effective policies and procedures for compliance with the new MUTCD retroreflectivity standards This session will focus on agencies that have moved forward on the new requirements and will discuss the steps that they took . This program has been approved for .2 CEUs or 2 PDHs. The form to request these credits is included in the handouts for this program. Please note there is a $5 fee per individual requesting CEUs.
Speaker:	James Ellison County Traffic Engineer Pierce County, WA James W. Ellison, P.E., has 36 years of professional traffic engineering experience in city, county, and private sectors, including the last 19 years as County Traffic Engineer for Pierce County, WA. He currently serves on both the ITE and NACE delegations to the National Committee on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. Jim has also served on AASHTO task forces for both sign and pavement marking retroreflectivity issues.
Speaker:	Greg Schertz, P.E. Federal Lands Safety Leader & FHWA Retroreflectivity Team Co-Leader Greg graduated from Texas A&M University and has worked for the Federal Highway Administration for 30 years. He is a Professional Engineer and currently holds the position of FHWA Retroreflectivity Team Leader, responsible for developing minimum retroreflectivity standards for signs and markings.
Speaker:	MODERATOR: Mike Herleth Associate Civil Engineer Burns & McDonnell Engineers Mike is a registered professional engineer in the State of Missouri and has 20 years of professional service. His experience includes working for both the state and private sector in many facets of transportation to include roadway design, field operations, and leadership roles. Mike currently serves on the local Kansas City ITE Chapter Training Committee and the Transportation Engineers Association of Missouri Program Committee.
