The last broadcast in the series about pavement concentrates on the quality construction of flexible and rigid pavement. Discussion about hot mix asphalt includes the material, laydown and compaction of the pavement. Information about Portland cement pavements includes materials, forming and pouring, and finishing techniques.

Tim Murphy graduated Illinois Institute of Technology and acquired a professional engineering license in Illinois. He moved quickly up the ranks of the Illinois Department of Transportation. After leaving IDOT, he joined the Asphalt Institute, a non-profit organization promoting the proper use of asphalt.
He has developed and presented a variety of training classes about asphalt, specifically about workmanship and mix design. He has also authored articles and papers about many aspects of the paving industry.

Matt LaChance

Mr. LaChance has 20 years of experience in the evaluation, inspection, and testing of hot mix asphalt pavements. He has led the field pavement quality assurance efforts on a number of significant highway and airport paving projects, as well as several municipal annual paving programs. He conducts classroom and hands on training for both paving contractor and owner agency personnel in proper paving techniques and paving inspection procedures. He carries several certifications from the Asphalt Institute, the New England Transportation Technician Certification Program, and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Scott Haislip
Director – Streets & Roads American Concrete Pavement Association Skokie, IL
R. Scott Haislip is the Director of Streets and Roads for the American Concrete Pavement Association. He has more than 24 years of technical and engineering experience including a work history of positions with the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association, Lafarge Corporation, Grace Construction Products and Ohio Department of Transportation, where he has specialized in sales and marketing of construction materials and technologies. He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from The Ohio State University.
Haislip lectures frequently on a variety of pavement topics including the design and construction of concrete pavements.
