Reinvesting in America’s Transportation System

SAFETEA-LU, the federal law funding state and local surface transportation programs, expires in less than one year on September 30, 2009. Falling revenues, aging and deteriorating roads, bridges and public transportation systems, growing congestion and the need for greater sustainability are just a few of the many challenges confronting our transportation system. Every community has a stake in the future of our transportation system, and public works professionals have an opportunity now to seek long-term policy solutions to ensure an adequately funded, sustainable transportation system.

This program provides an update on the status of surface transportation authorization and recommended reforms shaping the debate. The program also includes a presentation of APWA's new surface transportation authorization toolkit and hands-on resources for attendees to take back to their communities and APWA chapters.
