The road to green is about minimizing the long-term impact of public works operations on the environment while enhancing organizational effectiveness. This program will help you identify opportunities to embed concepts into your organization and create a vision of sustainability for the future.
The Capital Regional District (CRD) is the regional government that provides wastewater management to residential, commercial, industrial and institutional customers throughout the Core Area and West Shore communities of the Victoria region of Canada. When the CRD was tasked with developing a new wastewater management strategy, they decided to take a “Clean Sheet” approach and started with a survey of worldwide trends. What they discovered was a shift in direction from the traditional view that wastewater was something to be disposed of as cheaply as possible to one that considered wastewater a key component of urban resource management.
The program also provides an overview of the USEPA CSO program and a discussion of emerging trends of integrated planning and management as they relate to the use of green infrastructure and solutions; low-impact development; sustainable infrastructure and smart growth.
