A message from Brian Usher, Engineering and Technology Committee Chair, 2010-2011
Welcome to the Website for the APWA Engineering & Technology Technical Committee. We hope you find this a beneficial site allowing you to observe projects and activities the Committee is working on, review the Committee's annual work plan, as well as accessing the E & T Committee's Power Point presentation of the role of the committee.
The role of this committee is among the broadest within APWA. By its very nature, there is little in the realm of the public works profession that does not involve either engineering or technology. Accordingly, the greatest challenge we face each year is finding the appropriate focus for our resources and efforts. During the past four years we have seen our focus shift from the traditional public works activities to a newer focus on issues surrounding our environment and sustainable practices, whether in the vertical (structural) environment or in the horizontal (pavement/utility) environment. This new focus is reflected in the work currently underway to assist in the development of a Horizontal construction Green Scorecard for roads, sidewalks and utilities which would be similar to the LEED or Green Building standards utilized in traditional vertical facility construction.
As with all APWA Technical Committees our goal is to focus ahead of the curve and try to bring you information and resources which are timely and relevant. This is challenging in today's fast changing world, but we commit to you to do our best. The committee is already focusing on articles for the coming years APWA Reporter issues, as well as presentations for the 2011 & 2012 APWA Congresses.
Please, take a moment and review our meeting summaries, review our work plan, and check out the APWA Resource Center. On this page you will find a tab for Committee Roster. We welcome your thoughts and your feedback.
Thank you for visiting, and we hope you return here often to find the assistance you seek.
