Can I hook up multiple computers in my office to view the program?
The registration fee covers one computer hook-up per location. You can have several people in the office or conference room view the program, but the rate is based per site/computer connection. The same goes for the audio connection.
Can I record the program?
No. Web-based Trainings are copyright of the American Public Works Association. However, we record the CDs and sell them. They are available for purchase after the program at www.apwa.net/education/web or in the APWA bookstore.
Can I use an auditorium or college space for this program?
Yes, but be very wary of the audio system. Make sure it is compatible with handling telephone input and can deliver quality audio at an adequate volume level. For this, please either test the system, or work directly with an IT specialist at the facility. With streaming audio, you do not need a telephone input just speakers connected to the computer.
Can my firewall interfere with my interaction with the program?
Genesys' new conferencing service is firewall transparent. This means that you are viewing the program like a regular web page. For more information visit www.genesys.com.

Pop-up blocking and virus scanning software may interfere with your ability to connect to the Internet portion of the program and sometimes it can interfere with the streaming audio. All you have to do is disable it, and you will be able to view the program. Check with your IT department for details.
Do I need special software to participate in a Web-based Training?
You do not need special software to participate in a Web-based training, just an up-to-date browser.
Error message-- You have entered an invalid meeting number.
Please close your browser. Reopen it, and go to www.apwa.net. Click on the Web-based Training logo and enter the meeting number when asked. From there carefully enter your meeting number.
Error message--The moderator hasn't selected a presentation yet.
Be patient you are almost there. If the left control panel with the Q&A box appears with this phrase, the slides will come up shortly. If they do not come up, repeat the log-in process. If that doesn't work, please call Genesys technical support at 800-305-5208.
For technical support who do I call?
Call Genesys Technical support at 800-305-5208.
How can I ask my questions during the program?
At any time during the program, you may type a question in the "Chat" box. It is somewhat like being in a chat room on the Internet, only the audience cannot see your question. It is submitted to the moderator and presenters of the program, and then addressed during the Q&A segments. There will be a slide on "how to submit a question" at the beginning of each program.
How do I get the program handouts?
You will download and print them out from a special link to the APWA website. This will either be sent in the instruction email for connecting to the broadcast, or a separate email a few days before the program.
How early can I log into the program?
You can log in to the program as early as one hour before the start time. This will give you time to troubleshoot if needed. However, you should run the proper pre-session tests before the day of the program to avoid last minute problems.
How long will this program last?
Web-based Training programs are three hours long. Please make sure you are clear on the start times and what time zone you are in since they are live programs.
I am in Canada; will I have problems connecting to the broadcast?
No. The toll-free phone number we use is accessible from Canada.
I am using a computer different than the one on which I received the email instructions. How do I log on?
If you are using a different computer for the broadcast than the one you received your email invitation/instruction on, all you have to do is print off a copy of the email with the information. Rather than clicking on the link to join the conference, you will just go to the APWA home page www.apwa.net, click on the Web-based Training icon, and follow your printed instructions.
If the person who registered for the program is not at work the day of the program what should I do?
Call the APWA education department at 800-848-2792 immediately and someone will send you the instructions. You will need to provide them with the registrant's name for verification.
What are the minimum capabilities my computer needs? Internet connection speed?
Operating System: Windows 98, NT 4.0, ME, 2000, or XP

Browser: Internet Explorer 5.0 or later.

For Streaming Audio: Basic Microsoft Media Player

Click the link below to ensure your web browser is up-to-date and configured correctly; this must be completed on the computer or laptop you will be using on the day of the program:

For optimal viewing, set your screen resolution to 1024 x 768.

Pop-up blocking and virus scanning software may interfere with your ability to connect to the Internet portion of the program and sometimes it can interfere with the streaming audio. Check with your IT department for details.

For any technical questions regarding computer set-up, firewalls, or system requirements, call Genesys technical support at 1-800-305-5208.
What do I do if I have lost my instruction email?
If you have accidentally deleted your instruction email, or misplaced it, call Courtney at 800-848-2792, and she will resend you the instructions. If it is the day of the program, and you cannot find your instructions, call the Education Department at the number above, and they will either email you the instructions or walk you through the login process.
What do I do if we fail to connect to the broadcast and I need a refund?
Whether or not you will get a refund, free CD, etc., is determined on a case-by-case basis. Any requests for refunds must be received in writing by APWA to education@apwa.net within 3 business days after the broadcast to be considered.
What does registration fee include? How many people can watch the program?
The registration fee is a "per site/connection" rate. As long as you have one audio connection and one Internet connection, you may have as many people at your site that is logistically feasible. If you have several people at your site, use an LCD projector to project the program on a large screen and a high-quality speaker phone.
What equipment do I need to participate in a Web-Based Training?
All you need to participate in a Web-based Training is a computer with Internet connection for the visual portion and either speakers for streaming or speaker phone for the audio portion. For the audio portion you will dial a toll free number or chose to stream the audio on your computer.

Macintosh is not compatible with these programs at this time.
What should I do if I lose the visuals but still have the audio?
Continue to listen, close your browser and repeat the login process. If that doesn't work, call Genesys Technical support at 800-305-5208.

Don't forget to wiggle your mouse every now and then so that your computer does not go to your screen saver or energy saving mode.
Where is this program going to be held?
At your desktop or conference room. You participate in this program via the Internet and speaker phone.
